These pitches are so lousy that I’m losing my hearing, there’s a constant ringing in my ear, and every once in while the world starts spinning. Before there is an epidemic of M�ni�re’s in the venture capital community, I am trying to evangelize the 10/20/30 Rule of PowerPoint. It’s quite simple: a PowerPoint presentation should have ten slides, last no more than twenty minutes, and contain no font smaller than thirty points."

this is a team blog... so it's your blog as soon as you accept your invitations I'll make all of you admins for the blog... (which gives you more control :-) and lets you invite others and also add things to the template of the blog... like really great links....

One of the links is the link to our class "writeboard" wiki... where we keep a running commentary of what's happening in our classes.

An honest speaker will tell you that she has “on” days and “off” days. The result of a truly “on” day is a standing ovation. I had a very “on” day at TiECon on May 13, 2006. This is the annual meeting of The Indus Entrepreneur organization.

I’ve provided postings of audio and video of my speeches that covered the topics of innovation and evangelism, but this is the first one of “The Art of the Start.” It’s the first one, frankly, because I’ve been waiting until I did it very—standing ovation—well.

There's a huge difference between being a common-or-garden fool and being a Fool of the Motley variety.

People in the first category are at risk of being cheated, conned, deceived, defrauded, duped, fiddled, fleeced, hoodwinked, ripped off, scammed, swindled and tricked (no, I didn't get a thesaurus last Christmas!).

On the other hand, people in the second category (Fools) have discovered how to make better financial decisions by reading the words of wisdom on this wonderful website. Some will have read How To Spot A Scam and know that promises of easy money are almost always entirely phoney!

However, in order to help more people move from fooldom to Fooldom, I've put together the following list of six scams to watch out for:"

A new way to search

Like.com is a new visual search engine. It is funny to try it especially if you are interested in the hand bags, the shoes or the watches. The engine was developed by the team of Riya which has already developed a facial search engine. The team wants to make it possible to people to seek objects close to those which they saw weared by their favorite star, in order to be able to acquire them.

There already exist search engines when you are looking for an image, but they allow only a search on the text attached to the images. Like.com uses at the same time the text and the image to answer the requests.

The best way to understand is to try Like.com.

I am not attempting to be glib or sarcastic (really), but perhaps Bill Gates and company should look to Steve Jobs and Apple for more than just technical inspiration. Bill could learn a lot about 'presenting different' from observing Jobs' artful presentations. Sure, not everyone will agree with Jobs' observations, conclusions, and projections after his presentations, but at least people are not left scratching their heads in befuddlement. Jobs' presentations generate a lot of positive buzz and always release yet another wave of viral communication about the presentation's content. This happens in part because the contents are easily grasped and remembered by both the media, and regular customers and fans. You can't 'spread the word' if you don't get what the word was. With Jobs' public presentations there is both a verbal and visual clarity. This is what great leaders do. Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba, authors of Creating Customer Evangelists make a good observation about Jobs:

'Jobs does just what a leader is supposed to do: Provide a vision of where the company ship is headed and make sure everyone understands it.'"
